Hello, my name is Ariah, and I am a Graphic Design student at Fanshawe College. I hold a work-study position as a Graphic Designer for the Fanshawe Student Union. By the end of this year, I’ll hold my Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design and begin a new chapter. While the "next version" of me is not yet in the books, looking back at the versions of me I’ve already lived is what gives me the comfort to move forward. I am an artist. I enjoy exploring the arts in all mediums, from painting to photography to graphic design.
There is a lot I have to offer, and a lot more I would love to learn. This portfolio isn't perfect, but I am proud of it. It's a part of who I am in retrospect, and only the beginning.
Question & Answer
How do you handle negative feedback on your designs?
Any feedback is a learning opportunity for me as a designer. I will always try my best to reach the client's expectations, so any feedback is accepted and preferred, as it allows me to improve my designs moving forward. Negative feedback is positive feedback. I am flexible to step out of my comfort zone and adapt my designs according to any feedback I may receive.
What design projects are you interested in exploring?
During my experience at Fanshawe College, I have found that I love advanced photo manipulation, illustration and layout designs.
Projects like: Newspaper/Magazine layout & Illustrations, packaging design, book covers, movie posters, advertisements, and trading cards are where I find myself most inspired, but I'm open to exploring other projects and ideas as well!
What design programs are you comfortable using?
I am most advanced in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. I also have a fair amount of experience in Lightroom, Dimension, After Effects and Premiere Pro, as well as Figma.
I am interested in learning other design programs as well!
How do you ensure you meet deadlines for graphic design projects?
I keep an organized workflow and calendar. At the beginning of each project, I will create a in depth schedule for myself, as well as a checklist, to meet personal expectations, as well as client expectations. When working with a team, I am extra communicative to ensure we are all on the same page.
Do you prefer to work remotely or
on-site?
on-site?
In my experience, I have worked both on-site and remotely. I prefer a hybrid work week, but I am flexible.
Working on-site is great and provides many benefits, especially with maintaining good mental health, which is extremely important for anybody's success. However, depending on the commute, it might be best to work from home to increase my productivity throughout the day or week.
